Matthew Shepard #ArttoEndViolence

Matthew’s portrait reads: On the night of October 6, 1998, Matthew Shepard was beaten, tortured and left to die. He was found, 18 hours later, nearly unrecognizable and bound to a fence. Matthew died six days later. Though his killers and their accomplices deny that sexual orientation was a motivation for the slaying, Matthew’s murder garnered national attention and was the impetus for many hate-crime laws. Matthew was 21 years old. This occurred in Laramie, Wyoming.

#ArttoEndViolence is a new series of watercolor portraits dedicated to ending violence. The first, and titular piece shows eight notable deaths to the African American, Transgender and Gay Communities.
