Sedna the Sea Mother

Sedna, the Sea Mother, was born of violence. Orphaned and mutilated, Sedna was cast overboard by the children of her tribe. In death, however, her spirit infused the sea and her severed fingers became the ocean’s great predators.

Out of the Darkness explores the role of violence, oftentimes sexual violence, in myth and oral traditions. Sedna, the Sea Mother is part seven of the series.

She is watercolor and ink on paper, 18×24.
